Kamaldeen Sulemana finally broke his international duck on Wednesday, scoring his first-ever goal for Ghana in the emphatic 5-0 win over the Central African Republic at the Stade d’Honneur in Meknes.
The Atalanta winger, who has been in fine form at club level with two goals and an assist in seven Serie A appearances this season, tapped home from close range after a precise delivery from Joseph Paintsil. The goal ended a frustrating 22-match wait for his first international strike since making his debut for the Black Stars.
Sulemana’s performance was a timely response to critics who had questioned his recent displays for Ghana. In his last international appearance, the 23-year-old came under heavy scrutiny for failing to replicate his club form on the national stage.
Against the Central African Republic, however, he looked sharper, more confident, and fully involved in Ghana’s attacking play, constantly stretching the defence with his pace and movement. His goal capped a dominant display from Otto Addo’s side, who also had Mohammed Salisu, Alexander Djiku, Thomas Partey, and Jordan Ayew on the scoresheet.
The strike will come as a major boost for Sulemana, whose rediscovered confidence and form could prove vital as Ghana close in on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
