After a frustrating spell on the sidelines, German-Ghanaian attacker Justin Diehl has made a successful return to the pitch for VfB Stuttgart’s U-21 squad.
The former FC Koln attacker overcame a muscle injury and played his first game in over six weeks as Stuttgart won 3-1 over TSG Hoffenheim II. Diehl wasted no time in making an impact, he looked lively from the start, tested the opposition’s goalkeeper several times, and delivered a pinpoint corner that set up Dan-Axel Zagadou’s opening goal.
His time on the field was carefully managed, with his substitution after about 30 minutes part of a deliberate plan to ease him back into regular football. Alongside Diehl, teammates Leonidas Stergiou and Zagadou also returned from injuries, using the U21 game to regain much-needed match fitness. Zagadou even found the net with a powerful header, giving him an additional boost.
For Diehl, this comeback marks a critical milestone. Before his injury woes, he was seen as a promising candidate for the senior team under coach Sebastian HoeneÃ.
