Ghanaian-born striker Jordan Mintah says representing Malaysia is “a dream come true” as he prepares for his debut with Harimau Malaya in the Asian Cup qualifiers against Laos.
After securing Malaysian citizenship in August, the 30-year-old forward has earned a call-up at a crucial moment for the national team. For Mintah, the opportunity is both emotional and motivating.
“I’ll do my best, and we all have to work hard together to take the national team forward,” Mintah said after his recent match-winning performance for Kuching City FC. “We will fight for the country, give 100 per cent, and make Malaysia proud.”
The striker has quickly become a fan favourite in Malaysia, admired for his humility and determination. “This is a big honour for me. Malaysia has given me so much, and now it’s time to give something back. Wearing this jersey means everything,” he added.
Mintah’s commitment reflects his deep connection to his adopted country. “It’s not just football for me â it’s about identity and gratitude,” he said. “I want to show that if you work hard and respect the people and the flag, everything is possible.”
Malaysia faces Laos home and away this month, and Mintah is ready to make his mark, not just through goals, but through pride and passion for his new nation.
Malaysia’s qualification hopes rest on a strong finish in Group F, with consecutive matches against Laos, first away in Vientiane and then at Bukit Jalil on 14 October. Four points will be enough to confirm their place at next year’s Asian Cup finals.
