Jordan Ayew will once again spearhead Ghana’s attack as the Black Stars seek to secure qualification for their fifth FIFA World Cup when they face the Central African Republic (CAR) in a decisive Group I clash on Wednesday in Meknès.
The Leicester City forward has been the driving force behind Ghana’s qualification campaign, directly contributing to 11 of the team’s 17 goals â with six goals and five assists.
His tally places him third among Africa’s top scorers in the qualifiers and first in assists, underscoring his indispensable role under Otto Addo.
For Ayew, Wednesday’s encounter carries extra significance.
Qualification for the 2026 World Cup would make him only the third Ghanaian player to feature in three editions of the global showpiece, matching the record held by Sulley Muntari and his brother Andre Ayew.
The Black Stars currently sit atop Group I with 19 points, three ahead of Madagascar.
Victory over CAR could all but seal qualification, though Ghana will also be watching events in the simultaneous clash between Madagascar and Comoros, which could influence their final standing.
Otto Addo’s side have been dominant in the qualifiers, winning six of their eight matches and boasting the highest goal tally in the group.
Meanwhile, their opponents have endured a poor campaign, collecting just five points and losing five of their last six matches.
With Ayew in peak form and Ghana’s confidence high, the Black Stars are firm favourites to take a decisive step toward another World Cup adventure.
