2024 WAFCON: Ghana coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren warns of tough quarterfinal clash against Algeria
Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has cautioned that Ghanas quarterfinal encounter against Algeria at the 2024 Womens Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) will be a difficult contest, despite his teams strong finish to the group stage.The Queens secured their place in the knockout stage after a dominant 4-1 win over Tanzania, finishing second in Group C with four points.The result followed a 2-0 opening loss to South Africa and a 1-1 draw against Mali.While pleased with his sides progression to the next phase, Bjorkegren tempered expectations ahead of Saturdays clash.We know now, in the play-off, it's just game by game, and all other teams are super good. Everybody has been winning games, so of course it's going to be tough, he said.The Swedish trainer also underscored the significance of Ghana reaching this stage, given the countrys recent struggles in the competition.Ghana will now prepare to face Algeria on Saturday, July 19, in search of a semifinal berth.
