Youngster Nico Williams nets brace to send Athletic Club into Europa League quarter-finals
Spanish forward of Ghanaian descent, Nico Williams put up a spectacular performance for Athletic Club on Thursday night, helping the team to reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League.The forward started for his team in their second leg meeting with Italian Serie A side AS Roma.Athletic Club went into the game trailing 2-1 after losing the first leg encounter in Rome.In need of a win, Athletic Club found their hero in youngster Nico Williams, who impressed with a fantastic performance on the evening.The forward scored the opening goal of the match in the 45th minute when he latched onto a rebound and found the back of the net before halftime.In the second half, the Spanish side doubled their lead in the 68th minute through an equaliser from Yuri Berchiche after he was set up by Alex Berenguer.Later, in the 82nd minute, Nico Williams sealed the deal when he scored his second of the day to give Athletic Club a 3-0 comfortable lead.Although AS Roma would pull one back in added time, it was not enough at full-time as Athletic Club earned a 3-1 win to cruise to the quarter-finals with a 4-3 aggregate win.
