Nigeria star Victor Osimhen confident in new coach Eric Chelle's leadership
Victor Osimhen has backed newly appointed Nigeria coach Eric Chelle to guide the Super Eagles to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stressing that players must also take responsibility for the team's success.Chelle, who became the first non-Nigerian African to coach the Super Eagles, faces an uphill task with Nigeria sitting four points behind Group C leaders Rwanda. Osimhen, however, believes the squad is ready to make amends.Theres a new manager now, and we are desperately looking forward to the game against Rwanda to try to correct all the previous mistakes we've made and put ourselves in a better position to qualify, Osimhen said.The African Footballer of the Year has already had discussions with Chelle and is optimistic about the coachs vision.I've spoken to him a couple of times and clearly understand the objectives he has set for himself and for the players, he noted.Osimhen urged his teammates to step up, saying, It takes more than a coach to win football matches. Players must also be at their best, show commitment, and bear in mind that we can all fly together to reach our goal.
