Interior Minister urges religious leaders to join forces against insecurity

In a call to action, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, met with Christian clerics in Accra to discuss the critical role they play in promoting peace and security and emphasized the need for a united front against any form of insecurity in the country.

He highlighted the alarming rate of chieftaincy disputes, vigilantism and land guard activities, citing 11 existing curfews across the country as of February 2025. He stressed the importance of addressing the root causes of the conflicts and promoting social cohesion.

The Minister outlined a three-pronged approach such as community-based initiatives to foster peace and social cohesion, collaborative programmes to tackle the underlying causes of conflicts and enhanced collective response to emerging security threats.

Touching on recent concerns about drugs abuse by some youth in the country which poses a significant threat to the nation’s well-being, undermining the very fabric of the society, the Minister condemned the act and called on the religious leaders to help the government by educating the public and promote peace and social cohesion to reverse the negative trend for the good of Ghana.

Hon. Muntaka assured the clerics of Government’s commitment to supporting their efforts and providing security services with necessary resources to work effectively to maintain peace and order in Ghana.

He expressed his appreciation to the clerics for their attendance and encouraged a stronger partnership that will go a long way to improve security in the country.

The Christian Council of Ghana, Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Catholic Bishops Conference, National Association of Christian and Charismatic Churches and other churches that participated in the meeting, commended the Minister for the good initiative and said he has started on a good note.

They all pledged their support to partner the Ministry of the Interior and help Government to maintain peace and security in the country.
