Bibiani Gold Stars secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Nations FC at Duns Park on Sunday afternoon, keeping their title ambitions alive as they remain second in the Ghana Premier League, level on 37 points with leaders Asante Kotoko.
The game was a closely contested affair, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances in the first half. Gold Stars enjoyed more possession but found it difficult to break down a well-organized Nations FC defence.
The breakthrough finally came in the 69th minute when defender Michael Nkoah rose highest to meet a well-delivered corner kick, guiding his header past the goalkeeper to send the home fans into celebration.
Nations FC pushed for an equalizer but lacked the cutting edge in the final third. Their struggles in front of goal saw them slump to a third consecutive defeat, a run that has put their top-four aspirations in jeopardy. They have now dropped to fifth in the standings, increasing the pressure on the team to rediscover their form.
For Gold Stars, the victory ensures they remain firmly in the title race, matching Kotoko point for point as the league battle heats up.
