Ghana Police confirm arrest of Nsoatreman FC owner Ignatius Baffour-Awuah over Kotoko supporter's death
The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, the owner of Nsoatreman FC, in connection with the tragic death of an Asante Kotoko supporter during the match between the two clubs on February 2, 2025, at the Nana Konamansah II Stadium in Nsoatreman, Bono Region.Baffour-Awuah, a former Member of Parliament for Sunyani West and ex-Minister of State, was apprehended alongside two other individuals, Agyemang Duah Owusu and Kyeremeh Joseph, to assist with ongoing investigations. Ghanasoccernet had earlier reported the news, which was later confirmed by the police.The tragic incident occurred when violent disturbances broke out during the match, resulting in the death of Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, a passionate Kotoko supporter. His death has sparked national outrage and calls for justice.In a search of Owusu's room, police discovered two dresses with suspected bloodstains and an MP 23 pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition, which has further intensified the investigation.The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, extended condolences to the family of the deceased and the leadership of Asante Kotoko.He assured them that the investigation would be thorough, with a special team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) now deployed to assist the Bono Regional Police Command.The arrest of Baffour-Awuah, who lost his seat in the 2024 general elections, has raised questions about the role of club ownership and management in such incidents, as the investigation continues to unfold.
