Ghanaian actor and entrepreneur, Mr John Setor Dumelo, has been declared the Member of Parliament-elect for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency.
Mr Dumelo, who contested on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), secured 40,561 votes, beating the incumbent Member of Parliament, Madam Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who polled 27,377 votes.
Independent candidate, Mr Abdul Rauf Abugri Mumuni, trailed behind with 189 votes of the total 68, 384 votes cast.
In all, total valid votes were 68, 127 with 257 being rejected ballots.
The results indicated a significant decrease of 12,474 votes for Madam Alhassan, who garnered 39,851 votes in the 2020 elections.
In contrast, Mr Dumelo’s votes increased by 3,083 compared to his 2020 performance, where he secured 37,478 votes.
On the Presidential results, Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, of the NPP had 24,122 votes with Mr John Dramani Mahama of the NDC polling 41, 835.
A total of 68, 493 votes were cast while 502 were rejected.
In the 2020 election, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had 39,962 which represented 49.84 per cent, while Mr Mahama of the NDC obtained 39,709 which represented 49.52 per cent.
The Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency has never been a swing constituency. Since 1992, the jostling for the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat has been primarily between the NPP and NDC, with the former winning five times while the latter has won it twice.
The Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency is among the oldest constituencies in Accra.
Created in 1992, it covers East Legon, Airport Residential Area, Dzorwulu, Abelenkpe, parts of Tesano and Roman Ridge.
Its boundary constituencies are Ayawaso North, Ayawaso East, Ayawaso Central, and Okaikoi North. It is also the most affluent among the constituencies.
The 2024 General Elections took place across 276 constituencies in Ghana, with 18.8 million registered voters casting their ballots.

Out of the 18.8 million registered voters, 459,291 represented four per cent of the voter population.
The voter population was split into 48 per cent male and 52 per cent female.
Also, there were 13 Presidential candidates in the running, with some representing political parties and four being independent candidates.
However, at the Parliamentary level, out of the 801 contenders, 111 candidates contested as independents.
Ghana’s Electoral System is such that, the President of Ghana is elected using the two-round system, while MPs are elected in single-member constituencies.
