A very fascinating debate seems to always go on about artificial intelligence, especially about its capabilities. Intelligence is the ability to acquire or collect information and apply that knowledge and skills.
Artificial is made or produced by human beings as a copy of something natural. One can easily deduce that this artificial intelligence is a copy of the natural intelligence. This was subtly demonstrated in the first sequel of the Robocop movie made in 1987.
This artificial intelligence is being produced by human beings but what we often forget is that our intelligence was copied from the very inception of us in our mother’s womb. Mothers go to the hospital during early stages and questions are asked about how she feels; and her vitals are taken and recorded. This is done for millions of pregnant mothers worldwide.
Computers and computing devices are copies of human actions, behavioural patterns and certain logically capturable emotions used to preempt or predict future occurrences based on the varied, dense and intense information recordings that have been collected as data. The keyboards are copies of letters, numbers and symbols used by human beings – the original natural intelligence species.
The natural intelligence of human beings is being copied to create artificial components.
The copying is done from scratch with routines and consistent patterns of human beings.
The software is programmed with a set of related activities or processes, aiming to function precisely and rigidly.
The softness of natural intelligence is also being copied like artistic, intuitive, intrinsic and empathetic aspects. This is now termed machine learning – simplifying huge collected information through logical processes as a solution for a decision or outcome within explicit split seconds. For instance, searching on social media for anything yields instant answers.
The point is no matter the copies made from natural intelligence to form artificial intelligence, the limitless imaginative solutions of natural intelligence will forever make human beings triumph. We should understand that artificial intelligence is here to assist us not replace us.
Artificial intelligence is a copy and subset of natural intelligence meant to make us work better. Devices like calculators are to our benefit. It made us stop memorising multiplication tables. Artificial intelligence drives on collected information to perform tasks, so it will always be behind natural intelligence. Let us accept it and learn to use it for our benefit.
Natural intelligence is the original and artificial intelligence is the copy.
Let us not panic or be afraid; instead, let us use it to our advantage.
We use artificial intelligence to automate tasks like juicers and blenders, analyse data like weather forecast and make decisions. However, human beings are still needed to provide creativity, empathy and critical thinking. So let us not lose sight of our humanity.
