In a heartwarming show of generosity and commitment to education, philanthropist Joseph Boateng and his wife, Akosua Kwakoaa, have constructed and handed over a fully furnished three-unit classroom block to the Konkori Methodist Basic School in the Atwima Kwanwoma Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The modern facility, which also houses a headteacher’s office, a staff common room, and toilet facilities for both staff and pupils, was inaugurated at a colorful ceremony graced by traditional leaders, education officials, parents, and residents of Konkori community.
The new classroom block replaces a dilapidated structure that posed safety risks and hindered effective teaching and learning. It is expected to transform the learning environment and benefit hundreds of pupils in the community.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Mr. Boateng said the gesture was inspired by his passion to improve access to quality education for children in deprived areas.
“Education is the greatest tool we can use to change lives and build a better future. I believe every child, regardless of where they are born, deserves a conducive learning environment,” he said.
Municipal Director of Education, Doris Ofori, described the project as a timely intervention that supports the Ghana Education Service’s (GES) efforts to enhance educational infrastructure in rural areas.
“This classroom block will not only boost enrollment but also improve teaching and learning outcomes. We urge other well-meaning individuals and organisations to emulate this shining example,” she said.
The Atwima Kwanwoma Municipal Chief Executive, Grace Asamoah Agyeman, also commended the couple for their benevolence, stressing that government alone cannot meet the needs of every community.
She encouraged other citizens to contribute to national development and further advised school authorities to adopt proper maintenance practices to preserve the facility for generations.
The Chief of Konkori, Nana Addai Nimako II, who served as the special guest of honor, expressed profound gratitude to the philanthropists. He urged the students to show appreciation by dedicating themselves to their studies and excelling in their examinations.
Representatives of the Methodist Educational Unit and community members alike hailed the project, describing it as a beacon of hope for the future of Konkori’s children.
