Eutelsat’s OneWeb Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite broadband service has officially been launched in Ghana, expanding high-speed internet access across the country.
The launch follows a collaboration between Eutelsat and Comsys Ghana Ltd, aimed at delivering global broadband connectivity via satellite technology.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, Head of Operations at Comsys Ghana, Femi Lamptey, described the partnership as “the next step in technology in Ghana”.
He explained that the service represents “a chance to bring fibre-optic speeds to places that otherwise would never have gotten it — at a fraction of the cost”. According to him, the initiative will enable businesses to operate efficiently in remote areas that lack adequate internet infrastructure while benefiting from robust connectivity.
Eutelsat, a multinational leader in satellite communications, provides services to governments, telecommunications operators, and enterprises requiring large-scale connectivity. Under the one-year partnership with Comsys, broadband communication will be delivered through the OneWeb platform, supported by the country’s existing fibre-optic infrastructure.
Commenting on the partnership, Patrice Segura, Senior Sales Director for West Central Africa and Morocco at Eutelsat, described Comsys as an “excellent partner”, citing its strong industry expertise and local network.
Representatives from the National Communications Authority (NCA) expressed optimism about the partnership, noting that it enhances competition in the telecommunications sector. They emphasised that the agreement offers consumers a valuable alternative pathway to reliable internet connectivity through Eutelsat’s OneWeb LEO technology.
