The Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) is set to launch a self-sufficient TVET Management Information System (TVETMIS) to improve efficiency in data reporting and coordination across the sector.
Deputy Director-General of CTVET, Anthony S. Kwame Zu, announced the initiative at a stakeholders’ workshop on TVET data in Accra. He explained that the new system will enable the commission to better fulfil its regulatory and coordinating role, covering pre-tertiary and tertiary TVET, informal apprenticeship training, private sector providers, and industry.
According to him, the TVETMIS will be comprehensive and integrated, with modules designed to support long-term educational studies similar to those conducted by Germany’s Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories. It will also ensure interoperability with national databases, robust data security, and scalability.
Director of TVET at the Ministry of Education, Madam Rejoice Dankwa, stressed that reliable data is crucial for policymaking and governance in the sector.
“Data gaps create barriers to effective policymaking, weaken governance, and limit our ability to design evidence-based interventions. Without accurate data, we risk misallocating resources and missing opportunities to harness the full potential of TVET for socio-economic development,” she said.
UNICEF Ghana’s Education Chief, Christine McConnell, reaffirmed the organisation’s support for Ghana in developing systems that improve learning outcomes.
She pledged UNICEF’s continued advocacy for integrated education data systems, stronger institutional collaboration, and capacity-building for evidence-based policymaking.
The two-day workshop, held under the theme “Strengthening Ghana’s TVET system through evidence-based data monitoring”, brought together representatives from the Ministry of Education, CTVET, UNICEF, and Germany’s Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB).
