Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), has supported victims of the recent Adum Railways Market fire in Kumasi.
The former Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and 2024 running mate for the New Patriotic Party donated GHC 150,000 and 500 bags of cement to aid in rebuilding efforts.
The fire, which broke out on March 20, 2025, ravaged a significant portion of the bustling market, destroying goods worth millions of cedis. The cause of the blaze remains unknown, leaving hundreds of traders devastated and desperate for assistance.
During his visit to the site on April 1, Dr. Opoku Prempeh toured the charred remains of the market alongside current MPs Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah (Manhyia South) and Obiri Yeboah (Subin).
He offered words of encouragement to affected traders and announced his contribution. “My unused MP’s common fund will provide GHC 100,000 immediately,” he stated.
He, however added “now, I am no longer an MP, and as an unemployed politician, I cannot say I won’t do anything. Therefore, I am contributing GHC 50,000 from my personal funds and 500 bags of cement to support reconstruction efforts.”
Dr. Opoku Prempeh appealed to the Regional Minister to use his power to assist those in need, stressing the importance of leadership in times of crisis.
“I plead with the Regional Minister to understand that power is meant to serve people. If God has entrusted him with power, he should use it to help the people. Furthermore, all the steps he takes alongside other leaders should bring blessings to him, not curses”.
