The former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, has criticized the technical committee that investigated the case of ECG’s missing containers, accusing them of unfairness for failing to invite him to give his side of the story.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Alfred Ocansey on Ghana Tonight on TV3, Wednesday, April 2, Mahama expressed frustration that he was named in the committee’s report despite never being consulted.
“As I sit here, the committee completed the job without speaking to me. Yet, I am named in the committee’s report,” he said. “They spoke to the directors at ECG, but not to me. So how would you feel if you were in my shoes?”
According to Mahama, the missing containers were still under the jurisdiction of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and Ghana Customs when the alleged disappearance occurred. He questioned the rationale behind auctioning the containers without notifying ECG.

“So, the fact is that ECG failed to clear the containers. But is that a good reason to auction them without any recourse to ECG? Did they even write to the GRA for clarification? There are letters flying around, and when I was in office, I know I wrote,” he stated.
He further revealed that he has deliberately refrained from addressing any claims or allegations in the report until he is formally invited by the appropriate authority to present his case.
“I have decided not to speak to the committee’s report because I want us to fully appreciate the situation regarding these containers,” Mahama asserted.
The controversy surrounding the missing ECG containers has sparked national debate after a ministerial technical committee reported that over 1,346 ECG containers could not be accounted for.
