The Ejura Divisional Council in the Ashanti Region, led by Ejurahene Barimah Osei Hwedie II, has donated GHC100,000 to assembly members and community watchdog teams in the area to help combat illicit drug dealings and improve security.
The watchdog team has been collaborating closely with security agencies, particularly the police, to ensure the safety of residents and their properties in Ejura and its surroundings.
This support comes at a crucial time as the watchdog teams have been facing financial difficulties.
The funds were officially handed over through the Ejura Divisional Police Commander, Superintendent David Ashong.
Addressing the assembly members and security heads at his palace, Barimah Osei Hwedie II stated that the donation was made in response to a request from the assembly members to the Traditional Council for assistance.
He emphasized that the funds are intended to help the assembly members, in consultation with the police, to train and procure security equipment for the watchdog teams across eight electoral areas.
“80,000 cedis of the donation came from the Traditional Council’s coffers, while two local businessmen, Joseph Acquah Amankra, the Chief Executive Officer of Belove Knowledge Links, and former Member of Parliament for the area, Mohammed Issifu Pangabu, each contributed 10,000 cedis, bringing the total to 100,000 cedis for the team”, Barimah Osei Hwedie II revealed.
He expressed gratitude to his Council of Elders for their support and called on all businesses in the area to contribute to this important initiative.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the watchdog committee, Divisional Police Commander, Superintendent David Ashong praised the Traditional Council for their significant contribution to enhancing security.
“This intervention would greatly assist the police and the watchdog committee in our efforts to protect lives and property effectively,” he said.
Superintendent Ashong pledged that the police would ensure the money is used for its intended purpose.
