
The Navrongo District Court has sentenced Felix Amoah, a 39-year-old resident of Doba in the Kassena Nankana Municipality for fifteen months and six months concurrently with hard labour for stealing power copper cables belonging to the Ghana Water Company.
The district court, presided over by HIS worship Famous Yao Amenyo based on evidence before the court, stated that the convict, Felix Amoah was in Doba on October 13, 2023 when the theft incident happened, that the convict engaged in unlawful damage and stealing and is thus criminally liable.
He said the convict gave conflicting defense which he later admitted after cross examination, that, traces of stolen cables were found in his house in Doba.The judge also stated that the convict did not mention any hands of support in the act but evidence available through exhibits shows that the convict alone couldn’t have carried the stolen items to his house due to its quantity.
His Worship Famous Yao Amenyo sentenced Felix Amoah to six months imprisonment with hard labour on count two for damages and third count for fifteen months in prison with hard labour for stealing, but the two sentences will run concurrently.
Aside from the sentences, the convict is also asked to return the stolen power copper cables to the Ghana Water Company who is the complainant or pay the value of the cables worth GHC195,000.
The wife of the convict, Azamseyam Kadou who was part of the suit was acquitted and discharged after evidence available showed she had nothing to do with the stealing of the cables.
