Nine candidates are competing in the Western Region’s Council of State election, set for February 11.
While only one will be elected by voters, a second representative will later be appointed by President John Mahama to serve the region.
With hopes high among the aspirants, the final result rests on today’s polls, decided by a 28-member electoral college comprising two delegates from each of the region’s 14 districts.
NDC Backs Akwasi Nsiah-Awuah (“Nana Hill Crest”).
In related developments, Nana Kojo Toku, Western Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), weighed in on the race during an appearance on Connect FM’s Asem Yi Dze Ka program, hosted by Paa Kojo Peters on Monday.
Toku confirmed that the NDC has formally endorsed Akwasi Nsiah-Awuah popularly known as Nana Hill Crest as their preferred candidate.
While expressing confidence in Nsiah-Awuah’s prospects, Toku acknowledged the unpredictability of the election.
“If no irregularities occur, our candidate stands a strong chance,” he stated, “but with eight others in the race, surprises cannot be ruled out, given the small electoral college.”
