Former Black Stars midfielder Sulley Muntari has revealed there’s no bad blood between himself and ex-Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, despite the latter describing his teammates as cowards earlier in the year when talking about his penalty miss for Ghana against Uruguay at the 2010 World Cup.
Asamoah Gyan went on a full-blown rant on January 2 on Instagram Live, talking about a number of issues, including slamming his old teammates in the aftermath of the World Cup penalty miss and calling them cowards.
“When the penalty miss happened, I was getting abused and called names because others said I should have left it to others.
“Why didn’t the others step forward to take it? They were afraid. Cowards. I will say it. They are cowards,” he said.
Sulley, a member of the 2010 World Cup team, in his response to Gyan’s comments, refuted the claims of the forward and professed his love for Gyan.
“Asamoah Gyan was the light of the team, when we were playing. When we had pressure going into games, he used to sing and dance a lot, which made us forget about the pressure. Maybe he is not happy with something, I don’t think there was no support. I love Asamoah Gyan,” he told 3Sports.
The pair played for Ghana at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cups, amassing a combined 193 caps for the Black Stars.
