The Sekondi Takoradi Metro Director of Education, Sally Nelly Coleman, has commended Media General’s radio station in Takoradi, Connect FM, for promoting education in the Western Region through the Connect Western Best Brain Competition.
She was speaking at the launch of the 4th edition of the station’s quiz competition in Takoradi.
The Connect Western Best Brains Challenge, a quiz competition which began with only a few basic schools within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis and Effia Kwesimintsim municipality, has, within a space of 4 years, expanded to cover 27 schools from 11 out of the 14 districts within the Western Region.
Participants compete in English Language, Social Studies, Integrated Science, Current Affairs, Mathematics and General Knowledge.
The success story behind the initiative cannot be quantified as many of the students who have participated in it move on to represent their senior high schools in national competitions.
The battle line was drawn on last Thursday through the balloting to pair participating schools.
Speaking at the launch of this year’s contest, acting Station Manager for Connect FM, Ewurama Smith, called on corporate organizations and individuals to come on board to partner this worthy cause as it has the potential of linking them to their target audience.
Sekondi-Takoradi Metro Director of Education Sally Nelly Coleman commended Connect FM for being a pacesetter in producing a comprehensive event that has contributed positively to education in the Region.
Defending champions Barbara International School were hopeful of retaining the trophy.
This year’s Connect Western Best Brains Competition is being Powered by Pepsodent and supported by Heritage College, Best Publications, BM Global, Dext Technology and NNF.
Present at the launch were some members of the clergy, representatives from some of the participating schools among others.
