Tears flowed, heads buried in handkerchiefs to mop the tears, as the nation gathered to lower into graves, the remains of Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology and Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed, the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, who died in a plane crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

This was after a solemn Islamic prayer led by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.
The two were among eight Ghanaians that perished in a plane crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 in the Ashanti Region.
In attendance were President John Dramani Mahama, his Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other leaders and members of various political parties, including former Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery and former Minister of Finance, Dr Amin Adams; chiefs, family members, staff members of the various institutions where Dr Murtala and Alhaji Muniru served, constituents, well-wishers, and people from all walks of life paid their last respects to the fallen heroes.

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Sharubutu, said the testimonies given about the deceased would benefit them in their graves.
He urged Ghanaians to follow the examples of these illustrious servants.
President Mahama remarked that “today is not a good day for talking,” adding that in their memory, he would continue the hard work they had begun, ensuring that their legacy was written in gold in paradise.
In an emotional sermon, Assistant Commissioner of Police Hussein Mohammed, the Imam of the Ghana Police Service, admonished Muslims to remember the inevitability of death.
He said Dr Mohammed and Alhaji Muniru died as martyrs.
“Death would visit you whether you are young or old, whether you are rich or poor,” he said.
Imam Hussein said the Prophet Muhammad had said that the best of Allah’s creations were those who were best to their people and their community.
ACP Mohammed said many of the testimonies given about the deceased were exemplary and urged Muslims to emulate them.
For his part, Imam Sanda Omar, former Imam of the Ghana Armed Forces, bore testimony that the two Muslim brothers were good Muslims who served Allah with true faith.
He prayed to Allah to forgive Dr Murtala and Alhaji Muniru, and admit them into jannat (paradise).
Ghana was thrown into a state of mourning last week Wednesday, over the tragic passing of the government appointees who lost their lives in the line of duty.
