
The annual 2025 Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Arts and Craft Exhibition/Bazaar has been launched at the Centre for National Culture (CNC) in Kumasi to promote Ghana’s cultural heritage.
The event, organised by the Centre of National Culture, (Ashanti Region) aims to celebrate artisans, promote cultural heritage, and boost economic activity in the region through art and craft sales and tourism.
The exhibition, which was launched on Thursday July 10, 2025 under the theme: “Marketplace of Creativity: Promoting Art and Craft for Economic Empowerment”, will run until August 29, 2025 with a special feature of works of traditional crafts and art by prison inmates from the Ashanti Regional Prisons Service.
The exhibition, showcases the works of over 50 local artists and artisans, including students, Chiefs and prison inmates and officers highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the Ashanti Region and Ghana in general.
The displays include traditional crafts, framed paintings, textiles, sculptures, bead works, leather bags, African prints, back, tie and dye fabrics and Kente looms.
Nana Adda Gyamera, the Chief of FeyiaseAkoyem Traditional in the Ashanti Region, who opened the event, praised the artists and exhibitors for their dedication and passion.
He noted that “art and culture has the power to bring people together and inspire us to see the world from different perspectives.”
He lauded the Asantehene’s unparalleled wisdom and vision to create a conducive environment for creative and tourism businesses to thrive and attract investments for Asanteman in particular, and Ghana in general.
The Regional Director of the Centre for National Culture, Peter K. Marfo, emphasised the importance of promoting art and culture in national development stressing that “we have a responsibility to harness our cultural assets and products to drive economic growth, promote art and culture, create jobs, boost tourism and improve the standard of living for the people.”
He further encouraged patrons to support local artists and artisans by purchasing their works.
The Ashanti Regional Commander of Ghana Prisons Service, Deputy Director of Prisons, James B. Mwinyelle, pleaded with the citizenry to visit Prisons inmates since the prison is part of society.
He said society needed to encourage and support the reformation and rehabilitation of prison inmates to facilitate the re-integration of inmates when they finally gain their freedom into the real world.
