GFA approves new league regulations for 2025/26 season across all divisions
The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has approved new league regulations for the Ghana Premier League, the Division One League, and the Malta Guinness Womens Premier League, set to take effect from the 2025/26 season.The revised regulations aim to provide greater clarity and uniformity across all levels of domestic football, following a thorough review of the existing rules. According to the GFA, the updates are intended to improve the organisation of competitions, enhance fairness, promote compliance, and ensure better governance of the leagues.Key focus areas of the new regulations include matchday procedures, league structures, competition rules, player eligibility, and disciplinary systems. The new framework also incorporates the GFA Registered Academies Licensing Regulations 2025, ensuring that all affiliated youth academies align with national development standards.Similar regulatory frameworks have been adopted for both the Division One League and the Womens Premier League. These reforms aim to guarantee competitive balance and accountability while encouraging player growth and club development.In the coming days, the GFA will engage the 18 Ghana Premier League clubs in a meeting to discuss the rollout of the new regulations and related matters. Separate meetings will also be held with the 48 Division One League clubs and the 20 clubs in the Womens Premier League.The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season is scheduled to kick off between September 12 and 15, 2025.
