The Chairman of the Concerned Small Scale Mining Group in Ghana (CSSMGG), Mr Andrew Abban, has accused some members of the National Security (NS) and the ruling National Democratic Congress of being behind an alleged illegal anti-galamsey Taskforce going round and disturbing licensed small scale miners.
In a statement issued by the Andrew Abban, on behalf of the group, he named some officers (names withheld) he claimed were behind the alleged illegal anti-galamsey Taskforce.
The Chronicle cannot, however, independently confirm the allegation being made against the alleged NS officers and some party officials.
CSSMGG alleged that sites belonging to their members in Ashanti Region are constantly being tormented by the parallel group calling themselves Anti-Galamsey Taskforce.
Mr Andrew Abban mentioned Joseph Yamin, the National Organiser of the NDC and another party official, and some top politicians who are also playing some roles in the alleged parallel anti-illegal taskforce operations.
The miners are worried that besides extortion, these parallel Anti-illegal taskforce ransack mining sites and subject members to inhuman treatment, and wondered why both National Security assigns and party executives are engaging in illegal enterprise and attacking miners whose livelihoods help the country to grow its economy.
In the statement which has gone viral on social media since July 9, 2025, Mr Andrew Abban, appealed to the President to act decisively to halt the activities of these parallel groups.
The groups also called for a ministerial intervention to intensify efforts in streamlining activities of the National Anti-Galamsey Taskforce and help promote legitimate mining to boost the industry.
When contacted, Joseph Yamin, National Organiser of the NDC, denied the allegation made against him by the small scale miners and asked the national security office to arrest anyone who operates and terrorises licensed miners with his name.
Mr. Yamin said he had never engaged in mining neither has he sanctioned anyone or group of persons to operate as taskforce against galamsey.
The NDC Organiser, who stands against illegal mining, urged miners to cause the arrest of anyone who comes around to extort money and peddle influence, for the law to deal with them
