Ghanaian midfielder Mawuli Mensah in line for Real Betis debut against Elche

Young midfielder Mawuli Mensah could make his official debut for Real Betis when they face Elche in their opening match of the 2025/26 La Liga season on Monday night.

The 21-year-old has been included in Manuel Pellegrini’s matchday squad after catching the eye with a series of strong performances during pre-season. Mensah featured heavily for Betis in their build-up to the new campaign, earning praise for his energy and composure in midfield.

Mensah joined the Spanish side in 2022 from Ghanaian lower-tier club Shooting Stars and quickly established himself as a regular in Betis’ youth ranks. However, his progress was halted by a long-term injury before he made a return to action last season.

Now fully fit, the combative player has a chance to step onto the big stage and prove himself at the senior level. A debut appearance against Elche would mark a significant milestone in his journey from Ghana’s lower leagues to La Liga football.
