Ghanaian winger Ibrahim Sadiq has opened his goal-scoring account for the 2025-26 Dutch Eredivisie season after finding the back of the net in AZ Alkmaar’s thrilling 2-2 draw away to FC Volendam on Sunday evening.
The encounter, staged at the Kras Stadion, produced an entertaining four-goal battle with both sides showing attacking intent from the onset.
The hosts struck first in the 7th minute through Aurelio Oehlers, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to fire Volendam into the lead.
However, AZ responded quickly, and it was Sadiq who restored parity with a fine finish in the 16th minute.
The goal marked his first of the new campaign, boosting his confidence as he looks to build on last season’s impressive tally.
After the break, Troy Parrott completed the comeback for AZ in the 54th minute with a well-taken strike to make it 2-1.
But the advantage lasted only nine minutes as Xavier Mbuyamba equalised for Volendam, ensuring the game ended all square.
Sadiq, who featured for 58 minutes before being substituted by Zico Buurmeester, was once again lively on the wings, showcasing his pace and direct play.
Meanwhile, Dutch-born Ghanaian goalkeeper Raymond Jayden Owusu-Oduro completed the full 90 minutes between the sticks for AZ.
Last season, Sadiq netted seven goals and provided four assists in 21 Eredivisie appearances.
With his first strike already in the books, expectations are high that the former FC Nordsjaelland attacker can reach double figures and play a pivotal role in AZ’s bid for a strong domestic and European campaign this term.
