Ghanaian winger Edmund Baidoo delivered a standout performance for Red Bull Salzburg in their pulsating 2-2 draw with Ried in the opening round of the Austrian Bundesliga on Saturday evening.
Baidoo, full of energy and confidence, played the entire match and left a strong impression on the traveling Salzburg fans. He provided the assist for the game’s opening goal, threading a sharp pass to Sota Kitano, who slotted home calmly in the 9th minute.
Despite Salzburg’s dominance in possession and a barrage of 28 shots, Ried struck back. Kingstone Mutandwa levelled in the 31st minute with a powerful header, then set up Oliver Steurer to give the hosts a surprise 2-1 lead early in the second half.
Salzburg’s persistence paid off deep into stoppage time. Yorbe Vertessen rose high to head home a Frans Krätzig cross in the 96th minute to rescue a point. Krätzig was sent off moments later for a second yellow.
It wasn’t the perfect start Salzburg hoped for, but Baidoo’s bright showing bodes well ahead of their Champions League clash with Club Brugge on August 6.
