Ghanaian defender Ebenezer Annan is set to undergo a medical at French club AS Saint-Etienne ahead of a permanent transfer, Ghanasoccernet.com can confirm.
The 22-year-old has arrived in France to finalise the move after Saint-Etienne reached an agreement with Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade.
The French side beat competition from Scottish giants Rangers and Dutch club Feyenoord to secure the highly-rated left-back.
Annan enjoyed a strong 2023/24 season, making 38 appearances during spells at Red Star Belgrade and OFK Beograd. His performances attracted interest across Europe, but Saint-Etienne’s project reportedly appealed most to the player.
The move is seen as a key step in Annan’s development, with Saint-Etienne aiming to return to Ligue 1 in the upcoming season. Club officials see the Ghanaian as a potential starter and an important part of their promotion push.
Annan began his European journey in 2020 when he joined Italian side Bologna. He progressed through the youth system and made his Serie A debut in 2022. He later spent time on loan at Imolese and Novi Pazar before signing permanently with Red Star in June 2024.
He has earned three caps for Ghana and is widely regarded as one of the country's emerging defensive talents.
