Daniel Afriyie couldn’t have picked a better moment to announce himself.
The Ghanaian attacker sealed FC Aarau’s impressive 3-1 away win over Wil on Friday with a cool finish deep into stoppage time, his first goal for the club.
Playing the full 90 minutes at Lidl Arena, Afriyie was a constant threat, linking well with teammates and drawing cheers from the traveling fans. His breakthrough came in the 93rd minute, latching onto Henri Koide’s pass to calmly slot home, capping off a complete performance.
Aarau took control early, with Elias Filet netting twice before the break. His first was a precise strike from range, followed by a clinical header just before halftime. Wil pulled one back through a Kastrijot Ndau penalty in the 82nd minute, but it proved only a consolation.
Despite Wil dominating possession, Aarau’s efficiency in front of goal made the difference. The win extends Aarau’s lead in the head-to-head record over Wil to 23 victories.
With confidence high, Aarau now prepare to host Xamax on August 9, hoping to build on this strong Challenge League start.
