
The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, led a delegation from the football fraternity to the funeral of Joseph Kobina Ade Coker, former Vice Chairman of the GFA, in a dignified and heartfelt tribute to one of Ghana football’s most respected figures.
The funeral service, held on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the forecourt of the State House in Accra, drew numerous dignitaries and national leaders, including President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, and Vice President, Her Excellency Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang. Their presence was a testament to the enduring impact of Ade Coker's contributions to both sport and public life.
The late Joseph Kobina Ade Coker passed away at the Bank Hospital on Sunday, June 1, 2025, following a short illness. He was 68 years old.
A lifelong servant of the game, Ade Coker was known for his unwavering passion for football and deep commitment to national development. In 1997, he served as Vice Chairman of the Ghana Football Association, playing a pivotal role in shaping the administrative foundations of modern Ghanaian football.
He also served as Chairman of Accra Great Olympics, one of Ghana’s most historic football clubs, and in the early 2000s, founded AC Olympiacos, a club that competed in the lower tiers of the football league system before folding. His work at the grassroots level reflected his belief in the power of football to uplift communities and nurture talent.
Beyond the pitch, Ade Coker made significant strides in diplomacy and politics. He was a former Consul of the Republic of Belarus and also served as the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the ruling political party.
A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, August 3, 2025, where family, friends, colleagues, and admirers will gather again to celebrate the enduring legacy of a man whose life was defined by service, leadership, and an unwavering love for the beautiful game.
