
Ghana international Joseph Paintsil delivered a top-flight performance on Friday morning to help LA Galaxy secure victory over Club Tijuana in the Leagues Cup.
The Black Stars pacey winger started and played full throttle of the match as his outfit cruised to a resounding 5-2 victory over Tijuana in a high-stake clash, held at the Dignity Health Sports Park.
Painstil was unplayable in the highly competitive, scoring twice and providing an assist to inspire LA Galaxy to victory in the first round of the Leagues Cup.
LA Galaxy broke the deadlock after just 17 minutes into the match through Matheus Nascimento. However, Gilberto Mora swiftly leveled the score in the 21st-minute mark for Tijuana.
Before the half hour mark, Brazil international Gabriel Pec found the back of the net to restore the lead for the host as they went to the break with the advantage. In the 59th-minute, attacker Gilberto Mora scored his second goal of the match to draw Tijuana level.
However, it was the Ghana international, who led the demolition exercise for LA Galaxy in the second half of the match. He scored to restore the lead for his side in the 65th-minute before Marcos Reus added the fourth goal.
In stoppage time, the former KRC Genk star found the back of the net again to seal victory for LA Galaxy. The pacey winger denied himself a hat-trick after missing a penalty kick in the match.
Painstil has been impressive for LA Galaxy since returning from injury. He has scored four goals and provided an assists in 17 appearances in the Major League Soccer while scoring one in the Leagues Cup.
