Reading captain Andy Yiadom is set to rejoin training this week as the Royals prepare for their League One curtain-raiser against Lincoln City on Saturday. The 32-year-old full-back signed a new contract over the summer, committing to an eighth season at the club. With his 250th appearance on the horizon, Yiadom remains a key figure in Noel Hunt’s plans, both on and off the pitch. However, his pre-season involvement has been limited. Yiadom featured for just one half during the warm-up fixtures after sustaining a knock from a heavy challenge in Reading’s win over Hungerford Town. It follows a frustrating end to the 2023/24 campaign, where injury limited him to only 14 appearances and sidelined him from April onwards. Reading concluded their pre-season with a 4-0 defeat to Portsmouth last weekend, and while Yiadom is unlikely to be involved in the league opener, Hunt welcomed the news of his imminent return to training. “Yids is back on the grass next week, which is good for us as he’s a big character,” Hunt said. “He’s a big player, so it’s important to get him back and get him some minutes when we can.” With the League One season now underway, Reading will hope Yiadom’s leadership and experience can soon bolster a youthful squad aiming for stability and progress in the third tier.
