The Minority in Ghana’s Parliament has rewarded the Black Queens of Ghana with an amount of GHS100,000 for winning bronze at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Minority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, announced the decision to reward the team on Tuesday, July 29, when the players and technical team visited Parliament.
In his speech, the Minority Leader not only praised the team for their resilience and strong performance throughout the tournament but also showed evidence of the cash reward in an envelope and presented it to the House.
The Black Queens returned to Ghana on Monday morning after the 2024 WAFCON came to an end on Saturday night.
The team went to the tournament in Morocco as an underdog and started their campaign with a 2-0 defeat to defending champions South Africa.
However, after picking themselves up, the Black Queens managed to beat South Africa in the third-place playoff match to claim the bronze medal.
It is expected that the state will always reward the team for their performance at the tournament.
