GFA moves to roll out U15 Girls Colts Leagues nationwide
The Ghana Football Association (GFA), through its Womens Football Development Desk, has held a strategic meeting with all ten Regional Football Association (RFA) Chairmen and their respective Heads of Womens Football to finalise plans for the nationwide rollout of the U15 Girls Colts Leagues. This development follows the successful pilot of the leagues in the Northern Region and in Ashaiman under the Greater Accra RFA, laying the groundwork for full implementation across all football regions in Ghana. The meeting, led by GFA Womens Football Development Manager Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong, focused on the leagues structure, safeguarding measures, and modalities in accordance with FIFA and GFA standards. She noted that, like their male counterparts, existing clubs are encouraged to establish U15 girls teams and register players accordingly. Talented players may also be given the opportunity to feature in Womens Division One League matches to aid their development. All ten RFA Chairmen attended the meeting, alongside regional Heads of Womens Football including Amy Fynn-Thompson (Western), Louisa Amanor (Eastern), Cleopatra Nsiah Nketiah (Greater Accra), Faustina Kware (Central), Clemencia Anyaan (Upper East), Saweiba Mohammed (Upper West), Edwinancy Nunyanuake Glover (Brong and Ahafo), Mrs. Evelyn Nsiah Asare Owusu (Ashanti), Hajiah Zalia Iddi (Northern), and Madam Innocentia Agbavitor (Volta). The league is expected to feature 80 U15 girls teams and engage over 3,300 young players, including female referees from the GFAs Catch Them Young Refereeing programme. The initiative is a key pillar of the GFA Womens Football Development Strategy and aims to bridge the gap between boys and girls in football, while creating equal opportunities at the grassroots level.
