The All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC), with its secretariat in Nairobi, Kenya, has appointed Rt. Rev. Dr Lt/Col Bliss Divine Agbeko (Rtd), the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, as Executive Member of AACC’s Eminent Persons of Ecumenical Programme for Peace in Africa (EPEPPA).
“As a member of the Eminent Persons of Ecumenical Programme for Peace in Africa (EPEPPA), you are expected to contribute to the continued efforts of AACC’s peace work within the continent.
This will involve leading the participation in solidarity visits for peaceful resolution of conflicts, election observation and other mediatory initiatives that may arise,” a letter signed by the AACC General Secretary, Rev. Dr Fidon Mwombeki, said.
In line with its core mandate and guiding principles, the AACC has been working in partnership with the African Union (AU) and other regional blocs across the continent to advocate for social justice and human rights, while promoting peace through conflict resolution throughout Africa.
The EPEPPA mechanism is therefore central to the AACC’s efforts to demonstrate active solidarity with countries afflicted by conflict and disruptions in political and democratic governance that threaten peace and stability.
In this context, Rt. Rev. Dr Lt/ Col Agbeko (Rtd) and his team of mediators are also expected, according to the letter, to adopt the EPEPPA strategic early warning response mechanism to foster a culture of peace, thereby contributing to broader efforts aimed at achieving sustainable peace, justice, equality, dignity, and socio-political stability across the continent.
The appointment of Rt. Rev. Dr Lt/Col Agbeko (Rtd) by AACC follows his election seven weeks ago as the Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana.
