The country’s ambition to establish a world-class petroleum and petrochemical complex has received a significant boost following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing between Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) and Mannschaft Engineering and Infrastructure Systems, a Ghanaian firm.
This strategic partnership empowers Mannschaft Engineering and Infrastructure Systems to provide financial, logistical and technical expertise to advance the transformative Petroleum Hub project.
As part of the agreement, Mannschaft is obligated to contribute GH¢150million as partial compensation for landowners whose properties fall within the 20,000-acre site designated for the project.
Mannschaft will also play a critical role in resettling communities affected by phase one of the initiative, while delivering financial, logistical and technical support for this initial phase of construction.
At the signing ceremony, Acting Chief Executive Officer-PHDC Dr. Toni Aubynn expressed profound enthusiasm, describing the agreement as a monumental stride toward securing compensation and enabling the project’s commencement.
“This partnership is a tremendous relief. Securing even half of the required funding for compensation alleviates significant pressure on the PHDC and accelerates our timeline for developing the Petroleum Hub.”
Dr. Aubynn emphasised the collaboration’s transformative potential, expressing unwavering confidence that Mannschaft’s involvement will expedite construction and ensure high-calibre engineering and logistical services for phase-one.
He lauded Mannschaft, a Ghanaian enterprise, for its bold investment in the hub and urged other local firms to follow suit – reinforcing the project’s role as a catalyst for national development.
“I am elated to witness this milestone, the culmination of extensive behind-the-scenes efforts. This MoU secures funding for phase-one compensation and I am confident that both parties will uphold their commitments.
“The PHDC is fully dedicated to implementing measures that achieve the agreement’s objectives.” On behalf of the Minister of Environment and Green Transition and President John Mahama, Dr. Aubynn thanked Mannshaft for their consistent commitments to the project and hoped the MoU will translate into actionable projects.
The Chief Executive Officer of Mannschaft Engineering and Infrastructure Systems, Maxwell Adu, hailed the Petroleum Hub as a visionary endeavour to position Ghana as a leading energy and industrial hub in Africa.
He affirmed that Mannschaft’s mission aligns seamlessly with the hub’s objectives, pledging to leverage the company’s expertise in energy and logistics to drive construction of phase-one and contribute to a project poised to revolutionise Ghana’s energy sector.
What’s next after the MoU
Following the MoU signing, Mannschaft will disburse GH¢150million to the Lands Commission as partial compensation for affected landowners.
Subsequently, the Lands Commission is expected to issue an administrative fiat, formally declare acquisition of the designated land and outline the process for compensating impacted individuals and families.
