As Ghana’s upstream oil and gas sector prepares for a new wave of investment and development, the Ghana Oil and Gas Insurance Pool (GOGIP) is taking a bold step to strengthen local capacity. Starting from Monday 4th to 6th August, 2025, GOGIP will host a high-level Energy Insurance Seminar at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, bringing together professionals from underwriting, broking, regulation, and energy operations.
The seminar comes at a pivotal time, following the confirmed commercial discovery in ENI Ghana’s OCTP Block 4 and the anticipated development of the Pecan Field project. With global energy majors turning their attention to Ghana, the need for a technically equipped insurance industry has never been more urgent.
“This is not just another training programme,” said Kwabena Larbi, Head of Pool at GOGIP. “It is a deliberate investment in the future of Ghana’s insurance industry. We are preparing our professionals to engage confidently with complex energy risks and to support the country’s ambitions in oil and gas.”
GOGIP, established in 2009, is the exclusive vehicle mandated to provide insurance for all assets and liabilities related to exploration, appraisal, development, production, and decommissioning in Ghana’s oil and gas sector. The Pool comprises 21 local insurance and reinsurance companies and plays a central role in underwriting production risks for oil companies and contractors.
The seminar is powered by Tysers, a leading Lloyd’s broker, and supported by WAICA Reinsurance Corporation PLC, a regional reinsurance leader serving West Africa and beyond, and IQUW, a specialist Lloyd’s of London syndicate with a strong focus on energy and specialty lines.
While the full programme will be unveiled at the event, participants can expect a blend of technical sessions, regulatory insights, and networking opportunities that reflect the evolving demands of Ghana’s energy landscape.
GOGIP’s initiative signals a new chapter in industry development, one that prioritises local expertise, global standards, and long-term readiness.
