The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) Upper East Regional Office has resolved 97.5 percent of complaints it received in the first half of 2025.
A total of 636 complaints were lodged by electricity and water consumers in the Upper East and North East Regions. Of these, 593 were against the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), and 43 were against Ghana Water Limited (GWL).
NEDCo resolved 580 of its cases, representing 93.2 percent, while GWL addressed 40 of the 43 complaints it received.
The remaining 2.5 percent of cases are still being handled by the Commission. Most of these relate to faulty or damaged poles and transformers awaiting replacement. However, under PURC supervision, NEDCo has already replaced five transformers and nine poles during the period under review.
Additionally, GWL was directed to compensate a customer with an amount of GH?385.00.
The Upper East regional office of the PURC was established in 2022 to bring regulatory services closer to residents in the Upper East and North East Regions.
Since its inception, the office has played a key role in monitoring utility providers, leading to improved service delivery, better relations between providers and consumers, and increased awareness of consumer rights and responsibilities.
