Have you ever visited a place so all-consuming that leaving feels like a small heartbreak? A place where time slows, worries dissolve and every moment feels like a dream? For many, Platinum Blue Island Resort, lodged in the serene waters of Lake Volta near the Adomi Bridge, is exactly that kind of escape.
The Atimpoku-Akosombo enclave of the Lake Volta has remained a beloved tourist hub over the years, but an island experience remained the missing piece in the puzzle. This gap, the Platinum Blue Island Resort has stepped in to solve in a grand style, delivering an addictive tourism experience that every single patron wishes never ends. Nestled near the iconic Adomi Bridge in the Asuogyaman District, this private island retreat is fast becoming a magnet for eco-travellers, honeymooners and corporate teams seeking serenity and inspiration.
Leadership & vision – Crafting the future of Volta tourism
General Manager of Platinum Blue, Eugene Vidzro, a hospitality veteran with over 20 years of experience, shared insights on the resort’s vision.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the B&FT, he elaborated that the development of the facility started four years ago and aims to provide an exclusive island ecotourism service to tourists who visit the Lake Volta basin. He indicated the facility is still under construction and currently running on a pilot basis to test public reaction. But with the overwhelming interest, the official opening will come sooner than expected.
“We wanted to bring something truly unique to Lake Volta – an eco-friendly, exclusive island escape that stands out. The complimentary boat cruise, fishing experiences and untouched natural beauty set us apart. The public response has been overwhelming, and our official launch will come sooner than expected.”
The journey to the island
Platinum delivers comprehensive start-to-end services. The adventure starts with a complimentary, high-quality return boat ride at no extra charge – from the lakeside near the iconic Adomi Bridge known as ‘Island 69’ to the private island.
Individuals with aquaphobia, like my friend, Prince Veddi, often avoid situations involving water transport. However, his fear of water disappeared when he finally agreed to get on board the boat because he felt so comfortable that he even forgot he was on the water, thanks to the stable, secure boats and the provided life jackets. The journey itself is part of the magic, offering panoramic views of Lake Volta’s shimmering waters and lush surroundings, setting the tone for an unforgettable stay. For selfie enthusiasts, it is a perfect opportunity to flood their social media platforms.
The island experience
Upon arrival, guests are greeted by pristine beauty, surrounded by lush mountains and shimmering lake views. A 360o scan of the environment is a visual feast. There is something transformative about Platinum Blue where nature and design synchronise perfectly, delivering some form of a natural connection. From the shimmering lake at sunrise, the quiet luxury and the encounter with nature in such a serene environment make it a lasting memory.
Accommodation – Elegance with a view
Currently in Phase One of development, the resort features 15 exquisitely designed rooms, including lake-view chalets with private outdoor jacuzzis and deluxe suites blending modern comfort with natural aesthetics. Each space is crafted with premium materials, sophisticated interiors and breathtaking bathroom fittings, ensuring a stay that is as visually stunning as it is comfortable. Just by opening up the curtains, one can comfortably be in bed and see a wide range of activities on the lake. Especially with the two-bedroom presidential suite, one can see as far as the vehicle moving on the iconic Adomi Bridge and the surrounding mountains.
The staff: The staff at the facility demonstrates the true definition of customer care at its best. From Serwaa to Elizabeth and Benjamin, everyone is willing to help customers with one responsibility or the other.
Reliable utility
Platinum boasts uninterrupted electricity supply. The facility is solar-powered, connected to the grid and also has a standby generator. The possibility of experiencing prolonged periods of light outage is non-existent on the island. In terms of water, the facility is not connected to the Ghana Water Company but has its own purified natural water system, ensuring constant water flow.
Network connectivity
The network signal on the island is very strong, irrespective of the network; hence, corporate executives or individuals who rely on Internet services 24/7 would not be found wanting. Also, the management has signed an agreement with a technology firm that is on the verge of ensuring seamless access to Wi-Fi connectivity across all angles of the facility. “We want to ensure seamless Wi-Fi coverage for remote workers and executives,” the General Manager said.
Food
The resort’s talented chefs curate a nutritious à la carte menu, offering fresh, flavourful dishes. One standout experience is the opportunity to go on catch-your-own tilapia fishing trips on the lake, where guests can reel in their dinner before the kitchen prepares it to perfection.
Recreational activities
For those seeking excitement, Platinum Blue delivers beach volleyball & five-a-side football, an ultramodern long tennis court, a swimming pool, with upcoming kayaking, jet skiing and more watersports.
Conference facility
Platinum has a nicely designed conference hall that can host between 70 to 120 delegates conveniently. Just outside the meeting room are summer huts overlooking the lake and giving a clear view of the iconic Adomi Bridge. Corporate guests can take advantage of the well-equipped conference hall complemented with summer huts overlooking the lake for a perfect brainstorming session outside the noise of the big cities.
A plastic-free island
Aligned with its eco-tourism vision, Platinum Blue enforces a strict no-plastics policy. The facility has two dedicated staff members with the mandate to ensure zero plastic waste reaches the lake, preserving the natural habitat for wildlife like the tilapia and anchovies, as well as the vibrant Kingfisher bird, often seen diving elegantly into the water.
“As a responsible corporate entity committed to promoting sustainable living and keeping the environment safe for future generations, we have instituted a no-plastics policy on the island. As such, dedicated staff members are in charge of ensuring that any plastic that makes its way to the island or lakebank is properly disposed of.
“We are actively driving ecotourism in this natural habitat, keeping the greenery, maintaining the lake clean and safe in its natural state, with birds such as the Kingfisher – a brightly coloured bird known for its distinctive hunting method of diving into water to catch fish, it’s a beautiful scene to behold,” he said.
A Patron, Prince Veddi, said: “It feels like Platinum Blue Resort has some serious magic in its air, the kind that wraps around you and whispers, stay just a little longer”.
