Mawuli Tofah, the man who would, today, wake up in a tent up above the clouds at the summit of Mt. Gemi where the world “feels absolutely silent, sacred and absolutely unforgettable” on the top of Ghana’s highest human settlement in Amedzofe; and tomorrow, just maybe, on a stretch on the pristine beach of Keta!
In Ghana, Tofah is synonymous with camping adventure. He has, over the last several years, been the most dedicated and consistent camping impresario, organising, through his Hike Adventures GH experience, record camping retreats all over the country. For him, camping goes beyond an outdoor recreational activity involving overnight stays in a temporary shelter like a tent outside of one’s home. “It is a soul-refreshing escape!”
Camping for Mawuli is a way to connect with nature, enjoy the outdoors, and experience a temporary escape from the routines of daily life. A film sound professional, photographer and an adventure junkie, Tofah is a man of very few words, who feels it is “a privilege to be exhausted by a challenge you chose for yourself”. He’s is a biker who believes that “it is better to travel and get lost than never to travel at all.”
Tofah is chasing a rich life. The kind that a mind feels safe to live in. “The goal isn’t about getting rich with abundant money, but a calm nervous system, a few people I can laugh with, deep talks over tea, by a bonfire with no alarms on weekends. That’s the real kind of rich I’m chasing.”
