The acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Prof Ransford Gyampo, has stated that he hopes the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng has no bone to pick with the embattled former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
According to Prof Gyampo, that will not augur well for the reputation of Mr Agyebeng.
“I hope the OSP is not motivated by vendetta,” Prof Gyampo said on TV3’s KeyPoints on June 21.
Prof Gyampo made the comment while contributing to discussions on the topic, ‘Ofori-Atta Vs OSP’
Prof Gyampo’s comment comes after some analysts have suggested that Mr Agyebeng could explore other means to get the required information from Mr Ofori-Atta instead of declaring him wanted.
It is recalled that Mr Ofori-Atta’s lawyers offered for him to be interrogated through video conferencing, but the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) rejected the offer on the basis that the former Finance Minister has not been charged yet.
There was another suggestion that the OSP could go to wherever Mr Ofori-Atta is and interrogate him. This was also rejected on the basis that it would cost the taxpayer money to do so.
In reaction, Prof Gyampo said, “it is important to find out if Mr Ofori-Atta is not sick. Because being sick is not an easy matter,” he stated.
“And the OSP, they have in the past started so dramatically but, in the end, we saw nothing. Look at the Cecilia Dapaah case,” he noted.
The OSP is investigating Mr. Ofori-Atta in connection with five high-stakes cases linked to his tenure under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
