The incident
Nuru, a Koforidua-Kumasi bound driver was hacked several times with a cutlass by Afawubo for urinating in a gutter in front of his shop.
As a result, Nuru suffered multiple cutlass wounds in the head and hand.
The incident occurred Tuesday, April 30, 2019, near the Koforidua branch of Franco Trading Phone Shop, close to the Kumasi Lorry Terminal.
An eyewitness, Joe Pasaasa, told Starr News, a misunderstanding ensued between the two when Nuru defied the warning by Afawubo not to urinate in a gutter in front of his shop.
Nuru allegedly slapped Afawubo, compelling him, to dash into his shop to pull one of the sharpened cutlasses to chase the driver who then took to his heels.
According to other eyewitnesses, Nuru subsequently fell down and was attacked with the cutlass by Afawubo.
“We were here when we saw the man in this shop chasing someone with a cutlass so all that I saw was the man cutting the other man who was running but fell down. Then blood was all over him.
“He cut the head, the eye side, the ear side and the hand because he used it to block some of the cutlasses so people run to the scene and managed to arrest the man and later some nurses were driving to the hospital and picked the injured into the car to the hospital,” an eye witness narrated to Starr News.
The driver was rushed to the Theatre of the Regional Hospital where he was on admission until late Friday afternoon when he was discharged.
