Teaching and learning in the Ashanti, Bono and Ahafo regions is set to henceforth experience a major boost, as telecom giant, AirtelTigo has launched its special corporate social initiative on Thursday, May 2, 2019.
Dubbed “Y?n Nk?so? Nti”, the initiative which is the first of its kind is geared towards improving educational development across these regions.
One per cent of all AirtelTigo airtime proceeds in the region will be used as the seed fund for the provision of infrastructure, school uniforms, furniture and stationery among others.
The Chief Executive Officer of AirtelTigo, Mrs. Mitwa Kaemba Ng’ambi who addressed journalists after paying a courtesy call on His Royal Majesty, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace mentioned the network was elated about this intervention.
“We at AirtelTigo today are announcing the launch of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative of the year dubbed Y?n Nk?so? Nti, which is basically saying we’re together in this community for the development of the community and supporting education. I am a parent myself and I cannot underscore the importance that education has on the development of our young people.”
“Over the next three months, we’re committing one per cent of all our airtime sales in this region and that will go towards the development of education. This fund will go into renovating schools, purchasing furniture, purchasing uniforms or whatever needs that this school may have”, she added.
AirtelTigo is moreover giving the general public, a chance to plug into this novelty by submitting applications on the needs of schools in their areas.
“All public schools as well as members of the community are encouraged, over the next three months to write to us at an email address ([email protected]) on the needs that exist in these community schools.”
Mrs. Ng’ambi continued: “There shall be a cross-functional committee that will sit to evaluate the various needs and in due course, the schools selected will then be announced.”
The AirtelTigo CEO was hopeful the success of the “Y?n Nk?so? Nti” will spur AirtelTigo on, to involve other regions in the country.
Furthermore, AirtelTigo donated an amount of Gh¢20,000 to support the Otumfuo Educational Fund in honour of his 20th anniversary of ascending the Golden Stool.
“It was an honour and privilege to pay a courtesy call on His Royal Majesty, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the reason for the visit is to honour him on the celebration of his 20th anniversary as a king.”
“Apart from that we’re also celebrate his 69th birthday next week Monday; so on behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of AirtelTigo, we came to wish him well and nothing but success for the future.”
“We have committed to the education fund of the kingdom, Gh¢20,000 that will go towards supporting our educational initiatives.
