European Union-funded youth business incubation and community development hub, the No Business as Usual Hub has struck partnership with the Hacklab Foundation to infuse IT driven training into its youth development courses.
The Hacklab Foundation has since its inception in the year 2015 has prepared youth especially in the fields of Information and Communication Technology to fit the skill demand in today’s world of work and entrepreneurship.
With the collaboration, IT enthusiasts in the Asokore Mampong Municipality where the NBU Hub is based will be exposed to technologies currently driving change in 21st century organisations.
The Hub was instrumental in mentoring participants of this year’s Hackathon Challenge which focused on developing solutions for Ghana’s service sector using blockchain technology.
Speaking to Ultimate News, Programs Director with the NBU Hub, Shaibu Fuseini was positive the collaboration holds bright prospects for both the NBU Hub and the Hacklab Foundation.
He explained: “Our focus is youth empowerment and the Hacklab is also doing same but with IT. If we have people with the Hacklab working on tech enabled solutions coming into the hub, it is going to ignite and ginger some other youth to join the band wagon. We expect that going forward NBU will have a lot of businesses in the IT space rather than just the successes we have chalked with companies in the paper bag, sanitation and energy efficiency industry.”
The NBU Hub together with the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly and the SOS Villages is targeting to directly train 500 unemployed youth with employability and entrepreneurship skills and is expected to have an impact spiralling to over 2000 youth in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
