The No Business As Usual Hub has churned out a hundred and forty youth equipped in employability and entrepreneurship skills in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The No Business as Usual Hub is making strides at reducing the high rate of youth unemployment in the Asocore Mampong municipality of the Ashanti Region.
A hundred and forty (140) youth have graduated from its entrepreneurship and employability training program, funded by the European Union in collaboration with the SOS Villages with support from the Asokore Mampong Municipal Authority.
The youth empowerment and community development hub has since its inception rolled out a number of initiatives to reach at least five hundred youth with direct training in job skills and entrepreneurship alongside its empowerment seminars which are open to all youth in the Municipality.
The turnout comprised graduates from tertiary institutions who formed the Gama Group, senior High School leavers who formed the Beta Group and the lower band consisting of semi-literate youth forming the Alpha Group.
Fifty five (55) of the graduates had secured lucrative jobs with the skills they had gleaned through internships and professional training at the hub.
Twenty six (26) of the graduates had been supported to register their businesses and had already launched out as managers of their young burgeoning businesses cutting across recycling, manufacturing; packaging; landscaping; architecture and agri-business.
The remaining had also recorded tremendous successes in apprenticeship programs where they have been enrolled for continuous training.
Speaking to Ultimate News, Project Manager with the NBU Hub Esther Martey indicated that her outfit has a program to monitor and mentor the graduates to ensure that the successes are not eroded.
“They have completed the core life skills, entrepreneurship training and employability training but we are still going to coach and mentor them,” she indicated.
Assembly members of the AMMA were full of commendations for the NBU Hub and craved for more of such youth employment avenues to engage their youth most of who live in the Zango communities tagged with violence, crime and political party vigilantism.
The Assembly Member for the Aboabo Number 1 electoral area and Presiding Member for the assembly Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed, told reporter Ivan Heathhcote – Fumador, “formally we had nothing doing but now all the confrontations have been minimizing in the community thanks to No Business As Usual.”
Meanwhile graduates who spoke to Ultimate News were elated about their achievements and the sense of fulfilment acquired over the period of the training.
Jackson Kubama a Gama Graduate now working with the Barclays Bank recounted, “after completing my national service I realized I was still lacking practical experience but when I joined NBU, I had opportunity to meet managers from diverse institutions and when I got the job, I realized that all that I was taught in class is what pertains on the ground.”
Another graduate Harunah Barikisu indicated, “As an agri-business graduates I was confused about my next step but I came into the NBU with an Idea. Thanks to NBU, they helped me develop a business proposal and helped me register it.”
As part of its broader mandate, the NBU hub is also working with the Assembly to engender accountability and citizen involvement in the local governance of the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly.
