Netherlands to Support Job Creation for Ghanaian Youth

The Netherlands Embassy has demonstrated its readiness to support job creation ventures among the youth in Ghana with a nationwide visit to business incubation hubs in Ghana.

The Mission indicates that job creation especially among the youth feeds into its bigger agenda to migrate its aid relations with less endowed countries into a more win-win trade relation with such countries; Ghana included.

The Government of the Netherlands has long standing development corporation missions with Ghana in the areas of aid, trade and investments.

These agreements hinge on eradicating extreme poverty in a single generation; promoting sustainable, inclusive growth that benefits the poorest and most vulnerable and enabling Dutch companies to succeed abroad.

This has culminated in the keen interest of the Netherlands embassy to fund and oversee the creation of youth incubation hubs to train young people for jobs and entrepreneurship.

The mission has been in the Ashanti region as part of its tours across the country to assess the impact of its investments through these interventions.

Speaking to Ultimate News after touring the No Business As Usual Hub in the Asokore Mampong Municipality, the Assistant Head of Mission with the Netherlands Embassy in Ghana Katja Lasseur indicated that Ghana’s economy cannot support trade relations without an actively employed youth.

She told reporter Ivan Heathcote – Fumador: “We are very passionate about helping Ghana grow because the Embassy is on transition from aid to trade. We will want to have a vibrant trade relation with Ghana and for that you need a growing economy with employment and all the projects we are formulating now are in the area of helping youth develop themselves so they can create businesses and help the economy grow.”

Commending the Embassy for their effort, the Asokore Mampong Municipal Chief Executive Alhaji Alidu Seidu recounted the number of youth that have been empowered through the NBU Hub.

He however beckoned the mission to extend its funding duration to impact more youth in the community which is plagued with a huge number of energetic Youth most of whom are unemployed and often exploited for ill gains.

“No Business As Usual Hub has become a household name in Asokore Mampong and we are of the view that when the project is extended beyond its elapsing date of 2021, it will make more impact than what we are even experiencing now,” he remarked.

Manager of the NBU HUB, Samuel Afrane outlined some successes the hub through the Netherlands Embassy has chalked through its funding in training young people in entrepreneurial and employability skills in the short stay of the HUB.

He however pointed out that the NBU Hub is looking for further collaboration with the Netherlands Embassy to secure funds to support trainees graduating with viable business ideas, with start-up capital.
