The 4th Infantry Battalion barracks in Kumasi is setting itself apart as a center for professional operational activities and research.
The barracks on Friday commissioned a multipurpose complex fitted with conference rooms; research libraries and operational offices for coordinating functions of the unit.
Named after the Chief of Defence Staff, the OB Ackwah Complex is expected to promote conferences, exchange programs, lectures and other operational duties in a congenial environment.
Addressing the commissioning of the complex, the commanding Officer Lt. Gen. Arhin outlined that the edifice has a main hall, a library, an operations room, a room for duty officers, and a rest room for all ranks.
He commended the unit project team led by Major Lumor and the officer commanding 494 engineer squadron and private bodies who contributed to the construction of the facility in record time.
The commissioning formed part of the numerous projects the barracks of the 4th Infantry Battalion in Kumasi has witnessed under its Commander, Lieutenant General Sebastian Abraham Arhin.
As part of the facelift of the barracks, the unit can boast of a barbering shop for soldiers, a sachet water producing plant, visitors’ reception room, a conference room and new offices for the civilian staff of the service.
The Chief of Defence Staff Lt. Gen. OB Ackwah commended the Command of the 4BN for the foresight and demanded that officers take advantage of the facility to broaden their scope in the ever versatile and transforming phase of their work as soldiers.
He however charged officers in other barracks to nurture similar partnerships between the Ghana Armed Forces and the civilian public to attract more support for such projects.
“Let’s work very hard and selflessly by collaborating with the civil authorities to ensure peace and security for the good people of Asanteman and beyond. Let these and other numerous achievements inspire you to be more professional and committed to our constitutionally mandated authority to maintain law and order at all times.”
The Ashanti regional minister Simon Osei Mensah who graced the occasion, harped the need for maintenance of the facility to befit the status of the personality it has been named after.
He and the CDS contributed Gh¢10,000 and Gh¢5,000 each as seed money for the maintenance of the multipurpose complex facility.
