Former President John Mahama has accused his successor, President Akufo-Addo, of clearing his appointees of scandals at the Presidency.
He says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration appears to be experiencing a scandal per week.
“In a short space of 2 years, you can see the scandals. It was almost a scandal a week, and the President has become a clearing house, clearing all the persons reported to be involved. Under my watch we prosecuted people in administration who were caught in corruption and Abuga Pele is sadly in prison today because of all that. So Mr. President stop covering up for your people, prosecute them and let Ghanaians be confident in what is being them,” Mahama noted in an interview with Radio Gold Friday.
Mr Mahama made reference to corruption allegations at the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), GNPC, Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company, the Jubilee House among others under the Akufo-Addo government as basis for his claim.
Mr. Mahama who is seeking to lead the NDC for the 2020 elections also said the Akufo-Addo government will be living in a fool’s paradise if they assume Ghanaians are impressed with them.
“Let them continue to live in the fool’s paradise and say they have achieved their promises. Go around to the populace and see if Ghanaians are happy with what they have done. They continue to say they are digging dams but in essence what they are doing is a dugout. That’s what they are called in the villages.
“Go to the people and find out if they feel those promises have been achieved. The people are disappointed. For many of the things government talks about, the electorate do not see how it will benefit them,” he told Radio Gold in an interview Friday.
Mr. Mahama is contesting five other individuals including his former appointees for the flagbearer slot of the NDC. The election which comes off tomorrow February 23, will be held in the various 275 constituencies across the country.
